Our Christmas guests are like family members. We spend time together telling stories, moving in nature, relaxing, enjoying food and activities to name but a few. Everyone also has free time.

Daily itinerary:

Welcome to Nukula!

Arrival on the eve of Christmas Eve around 1 pm.

According to the old people, the day before Christmas eve is one nest day (all nest days are December 21-24) when the Sun is in its nest. The Sun is particularly tight in its nest during the winter solstice 21st or 22nd of December.

On the eve of Christmas Eve, we focus with you on preparations to spend Christmas time, bringing the Christmas tree from the forest, baking, and cooking. Furthermore, it will be pleasured to decorate the Christmas tree, the house, and some cookies. New traditional Christmas decorations and maybe snow or ice lanterns are made too.

After our shared dinner the evening is reserved for stories, nature, and relaxation. There will be an early night for everyone!

24 December Christmas Eve

In the Finnish calendar, Christmas Eve is the day we celebrate people by the name of Eeva (Eve) and Aatami (Adam), and for our ancestors, it was the most important day of Christmas. That is why the Finnish Christmas has long since begun on Christmas Eve.

A small breakfast is served at 7 am, after which we’ll start celebrating Christmas by going to the sauna. Finns go to sauna with their family members. If necessary, we can also arrange separate sauna shifts for men and women.

12 noon sharp is the time for the Declaration of Christmas Peace. After the declaration, we’ll enjoy Christmas porridge for lunch and coffee. We will prepare a festive Christmas Eve dinner together. It is also possible to attend a devotional service in the Toivakka church. Santa Claus will visit us during the evening.

25 December Christmas day

On Christmas Day, you can wake up late. If you want to attend a Christmas Day service (Evangelical Lutheran) in the Toivakka church, then you have an early wake-up call.

Christmas Day is for spending time together, enjoying silence, being present in the moment, and doing things together – also outdoors. We’ll relax, play, read books, or write Christmas letters. You will have lot of free time. We’ll enjoy the meals when our stomachs encourage us to do so.

26 December Boxing day

Since the time of our ancestors, Boxing Day, following a Christmas spent quietly with the family, has been a day for having fun and the merriment has already begun early in the morning. In Finland, Boxing Day has also been called horsemen’s day, which is why sleigh rides are still taken to honour the day. In addition to sleigh rides, the merry pastimes included visiting friends and relatives as well as dancing.

We can go sledging or kick sledging, have a snowball fight or take a walk in the forest to name but a few.

In the afternoon, it’ll be time to say goodbye.
